ALERT Through the Eyes of a Local Newspaper—November

BIG SANDY—Fittingly, “Onward Christian Soldiers” plays over the public address system at the old Ambassador University these days.

On the campus where college students once walked, 175 young men—the Air Land Emergency Resource Team—march and train in crisis-intervention techniques. In the first six weeks of the 16-month program, ALERT cadets, aged 17 to 25, go through military-like basic training.

Riverfront Character Inn—October

For six years, we had been praying for a training center near Detroit. As the flow of requests for IBLP involvement in that region increased, the need for a local base of operations became more apparent.

In mid-May 2000, we learned of the availability of the former Hyatt Regency Hotel in Flint, Michigan. Through a marvelous series of answers to prayer and the miraculous provision of a designated gift, the Institute acquired the hotel on June 16, 2000.

A Complete University Campus—May

By the end of September, the ALERT program should have completed a full transition from its current Michigan facility to the new campus, including flight training, emergency medical training, underwater search and recovery, auto mechanics, construction, and many other programs. We also plan to have our first group of orphans on the campus by September—a group of young boys from Russia.

Russian Orphans Learn Skills for Sharing the Love of Christ With Others—April

On April 29, 2000, 400 guests enjoyed the well-planned apprenticeship fair put on by the Russian orphans at the International Home for Children. Each orphan led a workshop describing a skill that is being taught at this international orphanage.

Law School’s Second Graduation—April

The second graduation of Oak Brook College of Law took place April 15, 2000, at the Oklahoma City Training Center. All graduates received a juris doctor degree, and half the class also received special academic honors. Oklahoma’s Speaker of the House, Loyd Benson, was among the guests who addressed the class.

ATI Students Pass the Test of “Social Skills” in Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia—March

Such barriers as language, age, culture, religion, economics, and race posed no problem to teams of ATI students who conducted Basic Seminars and Children’s Institutes in major cities throughout Taiwan and other nations during the month of February.
