Journey Objectives
Experience God with your whole heart.
“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13).
Time is allotted during the Journey for concentration on truly experiencing God.
Remove all competing affections.
“Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?” (James 4:4–5).
Confessing these affections to God and parents produces humility, which God blesses with more grace and freedom.
Receive the power of “one accord.”
“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. …And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance…And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles” (Acts 2:1, 4, 42, 43).
One person out of fellowship with God can damage the power of one accord. This is an awesome responsibility and motivation for everyone on a Journey.
Become an effective soul-winner.
“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise” (Proverbs 11:30). “And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever” (Daniel 12:3).
Only as we are in right fellowship with God and have the joy of His salvation will we attract others to the Gospel.
Disciple converts in the commands of Christ.
“And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also” (II Timothy 2:2).
This is the ultimate goal of the Journey and also of our lives. The more fruitful we are in discipling others, the more glory we give to God when we meet Him in heaven.
